General
What is FairSlice?
FairSlice is a free expense-splitting and game-settlement platform. Track shared expenses in groups, settle up with friends, scan receipts with AI, and calculate who-pays-whom after poker night — all in one app. Available on web and Android.
Is FairSlice free?
Yes, completely free. No ads, no premium tier, no hidden fees. All features are available to everyone.
How is FairSlice different from Splitwise?
FairSlice does everything Splitwise does (group expenses, friend balances, settlements) plus things no other app offers: built-in game night settlement with buy-in/rebuy tracking, AI receipt scanning, settlement confirmation flow, expense dispute resolution, and a native Android app with offline support.
Expenses & splitting
What split methods are available?
Equal, exact amounts, percentage, shares, and itemized (for restaurant bills where each person picks their items). You can also set up recurring expenses that auto-create on a schedule.
Can I split with people not on FairSlice?
Currently all participants need a FairSlice account. You can invite friends via email or QR code — they can sign up in seconds.
How does receipt scanning work?
Take a photo of any receipt and our AI (powered by Claude Vision) extracts the merchant name, line items, amounts, tax, and tip. You can then assign items to people for an itemized split, or use the total for a quick equal split.
Can I track expenses with just one friend?
Yes. Use the Friends feature to add someone directly and track 1-on-1 expenses without creating a group.
Game night settlement
What is game night settlement?
It's a built-in calculator for home games like poker, rummy, teen patti, blackjack, and more. Create a game session, add players with their buy-ins (cash or credit), track rebuys during the game, and when it ends — enter final chip counts. FairSlice calculates the minimum number of transfers so everyone settles up.
What games are supported?
We have 8 pre-built templates: Texas Hold'em, Pot-Limit Omaha, Rummy, Teen Patti, Blackjack, Mahjong, Spades, and Custom Game. You can also create your own templates with custom scoring (chips, points, or direct currency).
What's the difference between cash and credit buy-ins?
Cash means the player physically paid money for their chips. Credit means they played without paying upfront — they'll pay if they lose. The settlement math is the same either way, but it's tracked separately so everyone knows who actually put money in.
How are settlements calculated?
FairSlice uses a greedy debt-simplification algorithm. Each player's net result = final chips - total buy-in. Players who lost pay players who won, with the minimum number of transfers needed. For a 6-player game, you'll typically get 3-4 transfers instead of the 15 individual transactions you'd calculate by hand.
Can I use it for point-based games like Rummy?
Yes. For point-based games, each player's point total is converted to currency using a rate you set (e.g., 1 point = $0.50). Settlement is based on point differences from the group average.
Settlements & payments
How does settling up work?
When you record a settlement, the receiver gets a notification to confirm. This two-step flow prevents disputes — both sides agree the payment happened.
Does FairSlice process payments?
No. FairSlice calculates who owes whom and tracks settlement records, but actual money transfers happen through your preferred payment method (cash, Venmo, bank transfer, UPI, etc.). We support labeling the payment method for your records.
What if I disagree with an expense?
You can raise a dispute on any expense. The expense creator and group admins can review and resolve disputes. Disputed expenses are flagged in the activity feed.
Account & data
Can I export my data?
Yes. Go to Profile → Data → Export Data. You'll get a complete JSON file with all your expenses, groups, settlements, friends, and preferences. This complies with GDPR/PIPEDA data portability requirements.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Profile → Data → Delete Account permanently removes all your data. This is irreversible.
Is there a mobile app?
FairSlice has a native Android app with offline support, push notifications, and receipt scanning from camera. The web app also works great on mobile browsers. iOS is planned.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. We use Supabase with row-level security policies — your data is only accessible to you and the people you share it with. We don't sell data or show ads.
